Gang - I have never really been able to nail down exactly what an AFCAD is. I'm looking for an add-on for KSFO (the international terminal which is included in the default, the default which BTW is excellent, such that I don't need tosee the need to purchase a more customized KSFO). But when I look on line, I see references to AFCADS for KSFO, but does that mean buildings and such.

ByTwitter: Mar 11th, 2015 inGame developer Frogshark showcased Swordy at event at GDC 2015. Swordy is an upcoming game for Xbox One where there is no button to push to attack someone. Swordy arms players with swords, sticks, and other melee weapons to battle it out with up to 8 local players on the Xbox One. You can spin your player around and use centrifugal force to hurl your player into someone else or run headlong into them to duel. You must build momentum and crash into another player to try and take them out. While Swordy’s graphics may not be as realistic as other games, Swordy’s arena-type gameplay sure seems like it will be a worthwhile game to play with your friends or as a fun group game you can play at a party. Frogshark promises that there will be much more updates, tweaks, and levels to come, when Swordy is released to Xbox One later this year. So, check out the video below to check out what Swordy is all about, and look for Swordy when it is released, sometime this year.Share This Post:.

Are you saying that AFX is an infringement of Lee Swordy's copyright and then being sold commercially? I find that hard to believe as it is being sold through one of the more reputable FS sales outlets -. Perhaps they should be told.Agreed that it continues to be upgraded, but it is not in BETA - at least I hope not as again I would not expect to be 'selling' BETA software. BETA software is by definition still in test mode, and as such presents a certain level of risk to the end user and is best only used in controlled conditions.Reference my earlier comments, it is not entirely clear but it looks as if ADE has now been fully released and is not longer in BETA, in which case I apologise for any confusion.John.JohnhinsonThere are some of us that not only worked on Add-a-Gate with John Stottlemire but after his untimely passing Lee Swordy took Add-a-Gate and started working on AFCAD.

Lee has left the FS world of design but there are certain areas of AFCAD he left with some of us such as his original goals. AFCAD had features that were in design that actually created flaws which we were working on. Any developer that tried to reverse engineer AFCAD that was written in an older language would run into certain areas that could not be retrived. When AFX was released (updated about 7 times now) it tried to mimic AFCAD. However since AFCAD is a very smart utility and some packets and bags (stored information) were removed purposely AFX has had to remove certain code features (in the lastest versions) because airport corruption in the area of ILS /Navaids caused problems.Finding runway records then searching for ILSs that associate with a runway does not work which AFX finally fiqured out. The fix was to remove all stock ILS's from the AFX decompiler/compiler and fallback on the root AP9/X bgl. There is nothing wrong with that but AFX started out trying to mimic what AFCAD did and then had to make AFX a lesser then AFCAD utility in its lastest version. We stopped AFCAD at beta version 2.21 and in the past 3 years took all the original AFCAD Goals and moved ADE9X in the direction that AFCAD would have gone if completed.

Each airport utility has it priority's, strength and weaknesses. Our first assumption is that Lee sold the rights and the code to Flight One or Konstantin Kukushkin (AFX) who is listed as the copyright holder along with Flight One but I can tell you that never happened. What I find disturbing is we are mislead that AFX is one thing and yet not only did it bring to the table all the flaws AFCAD has (that we were working on) but in the lastest versions has removed the parts that does work in AFCAD.Making a FS9 utility that does not work well and then pushing it up into FSX just caused more issues. The ADE Team (most from the original AFCAD team) understand how FSX is different from FS9. They are not the same and it takes 2 different sets of codes to make a airport display properly but more importantly work when finished.ADE9X has two main objectives1.

Swordy

Make the airport look as good as FS or better2. Make the airport work as good as FS or betterNo 2. Above continues to be a problem for most airports (both freeware and payware) that you can download or buy.

Users can download what they want but we at ADE want to be sure you get all the correct tools for airport coding and get what you paid for (ADE is free).jimLast edited by jvile; at 12:51 PM. BillAre you sure? Thus the name Airport Facility Computer Aided Design Good grief! I did type 'Aircraft' instead of 'Airport,' didn't I?I guess it shows where my major interests lie, doesn't it.Thanks for the detailed review of history, Jim.

I too worked very closely with the late John Stottlemire on his 'Add-a-Gate' utility. I even remember one very ugly incident early on when someone (who's name excapes me now) accused John of 'reverse engineering' his somewhat similar utility.which was only resolved when I demonstrated via my archived emails that John had begun his intial work many months before this other 'gentleman' had released his utility. Personally I do not blatently recommend one product above all others (and then close the subject) - all have their uses and benefits. I use AFCAD and AFX to advantage in different circumstances, and no doubt will do so with ADE too when I have found time to absorb the contents of the manual.JohnI didn't blatantly recommend one product above all other - I've used AFCAD for many years and was satisfied with that too. Nor did I close the subject, but carping criticism of freeware developers' work is a sure way to discourage them. AFCAD was an amazing/ wonderful tool, especially the FS2004 version. Much of that was because Lee worked directly with several groups, not only in the US, but in other nations during a long extensive beta. While the beta was not a public one, it was available to almost anyone who requested to be included.AFX is also an interesting tool, and has some features from the developer's Instant Scenery work which are very, very useful.

However, it was apparent from the first that AFX was not developed with an extensive beta involving people intimately familiar with the good and bad points of AFCAD.It is good that AFX development continues. However, like AFCAD, AFX is old outdated technology.I remember a post from mid-2004 when someone commented 'we already know everything about FS2004 and what it can do, we need a new FS version'That was truly funny, because we are still learning even today - over six years after the release of FS2004.AFCAD development stopped over five years ago. We have learned so very much since then.

We know many of the core concepts explained in Lee's amazing help files are incomplete, and occasionally wrong. AFX repeats almost all those errors.I'm not condemming AFX.

I use it for viewing some of my work. But, I do not use it for serious work in either FS2004 or FSX.AFX has never been better and had less code issues in FS2004 than AFCAD in my opinion. After the first release of ADE, AFX was definitely second, or third place in capability for FSX, and the code produced by FSXPlanner and ADE is much, much cleaner than AFX. Remember again, AFX, and AFCAD, work based upon Lee's understanding of the FS2004 BGL structure. Neither attempts to comply with the FS2004 SDK standards. In Lee's case, that is understandable because AFCAD was out for months before the SDK was released.

The AFX developer should have known better. In FSX, ADE and FSXPlanner use Microsoft SDK standards and use Microsoft's BGLCOMP.EXE to compile airports. AFX does not. It is that simple. Now AFX is even more limited as ADE has released an FS2004 compatable version. ADE is the only FS2004 program which uses the Microsoft BGLCOMP.exe to compile the airport file. The FS world progresses, and we learn more every day.

Unfortunately AFCAD is frozen in April 2004, and AFX is firmly rooted in 2004 as it's core concept.I prefer utilities which take our learning since and make them usable. Now I understand why many people will not use ADE because they do not own the FSX Deluxe version with the SDK installed. That is unfortunate that a completely free tool is not available for FSX.However, Jon is able to include the FS2004 BGLCOMP.exe in the ADEX install so FS2004 users do have a complete airport tool available at no cost.
