Submitted on 5/29/2019 Review title of jFF152Fun/better to play.still funI'v playin and looking for a decent lacrosse game since I was 14 when I started plaing this sport.
I'm not saying thisgame is amazing, its better than 16. Custom is very expanded AND they added college teams. Stick handling improved but can be improved upon. Let's face it, thissis a sport that still needs togrow (and it is). I'm just happy to be ableto play a game that is OK, rather wait another 2years OR never seeing another one ever again. I love this sport cause there is none like and I enjoy (not love) this game because there is none like it.its close enough to have fun playing a sport /video game that reminded me why lacrosse is a dlastyblasty to play.
Body Checks come from your right stick. Flick at the player you want to hit. Hard to line up though.I've found the most important thing is not to constantly switch to the on ball dfenseman. Every time you do you're dragging the player you switched from slightly out of position (at least I do) and if your opponent is omoving hte ball, will quickly goet your guys all out of position. Pick a longstick when they come across the midline and stick with that guy. Sag in when the ball's on the far side to support, move out to your man as the ball comes around.Just like on the field.
I have put 50 hours onto the game so far so maybe I can help with a few tips I have picked up:Hits-Like mrhine5 said, Body Checks are hard to line up and if you want to lay them out I have found you must ALWAYS tap your left stick and sprint at them. Which makes sense, then you time up the hit.I have noticed that if I do this without really trying to time the hit up right, that many fly-bys will happen so be aware of that. Thanks for the advice, guys!
After about 30+ games i got the basics! These checks are all position-based and some will basically not work if you are not in the correct relative position.Body/crosse checks need to be face-to-face. Sprinting seems to help, but is not necessaty to lay a guy out. Seems mostly based off the Strength stat. It is also a nice check to hold a guy and keep him still (like a forearm poke check in the real game). From behind you can get a push. That is the only penalty i have seen (beyond the 5-10 time a game crease violations. They are getting old!) where is the slashing?!
The worst part is when i intercept a pass the moment i go to body-check and end up taking a buzzer-beater and throwing the ball down the sideline! Ugh!slap check is also good for stealing passes! I spam Y button when the ball is in the air (helps the NPCs too, as they seem to follow my lead when i hit buttons on my controller. Like they shoot when i press up, and not just when i press X, telling them to shoot, for example)Poke check is great for keeping an attack at bay and getting them to drop the ball. Even with little skill-point invested, the poke works great! (as it should!
Its one of the most basic lax moves!)as a RL coach, wrap-checks and rusty gates and kayaks are my bane! (the kids always think they look cool, so they want to do them. Or they do them out of desperation and its just a mess) hard to remind myself i am now playing a video game and no one can get hurt! Im too hung up on proper fundamentals.
But ill get used to those checks, eventuallylocking on. I found a great trick with this and its one of the most basic fundamental principles in lacrosse.
When way out of position, it will run you right to in front of the crease! Lax101 says, when lost/confused on defense, go run in front of the crease and find an open man! The game basically does this for you if you hold the L trigger! It is really a great system.
Once in position, i slough in when off-man and use L again when my man has the ball. Checking without lock on is rather difficult (cept the wrap check and slap check)Thanks again guys!
I hope i can add to the already great advice! Simcity 2000 dos rom.
